Quinoa

Quinoa is hailed by many, particularly vegetarians, for its high protein content and being one of the only plant-based foods to provide all the essential amino acids. However, you can also get these amino acids, as well as protein, from combining lentils and rice (or even beans on toast!).

Coconut oil

Coconut oil has increased in popularity, thanks to claims that it can speed up metabolism and reduce weight and cholesterol. But research suggests these claims are unfounded. It is high in saturated fat, which the NHS and British Heart Foundation recommend we reduce. It is also low in monounsaturated fat, which helps lower cholesterol and potentially reduce risk of heart disease. Swap coconut oil for rapeseed oil, which contains significantly more monounsaturated fat and much less saturated fat than coconut oil.
