The westbound entry slip road to the M4 Prince of Wales bridge is closed due to a diesel spill.
National Highways was carrying out work on the slip road overnight when a vehicle spilt its tank. As a result, the road now needs resurfacing before it can be safely reopened.
The agency said it is working hard with its contractors to resurface the slip road and it is hoped it will reopen about lunchtime.
Drivers using the M5 northbound are advised to continue to junction 15 to join the M4.
The overnight works on the bridge are part of the ongoing improvements to extend the life of the road surface, in a bid to provide smoother and safer journeys.
