A second arrest has been made after an 84-year-old man was attacked and critically injured by a suspected XL bully, police have said.

The victim, who suffered "life-changing" injuries, was chased into a garden in Bardsley Avenue, Warrington, on Monday evening in what Cheshire Police have called an "horrific" dog attack.

A 30-year-old man has been detained on suspicion of being in possession of a dog dangerously out of control causing serious injury.

Meanwhile a 29-year-old woman who was arrested as part of the investigation has been released on conditional bail.
