Abstract

The report describes the main factors that were taken into account in establishing the design of a transportable transmitting earth station for relaying television signals via a satellite. The realisation of a practical system to work with the Orbital Test Satellite (OTS) and the European Communications Satellite (ECS) is outlined together with details of the link power budget and results of the performance achieved. A brief review of operational experience by the Television Service up to the time of writing is also included.
