1. Flood alert

   Areas affected: Tidal Thames riverside from Putney Bridge to Teddington Weir

   ACTIVE

   Started at: 09:13 BST on Wed 30 April

   Flooding is possible - be prepared

   River levels are expected to be high as a result of spring tides.

   The forecast high tide at Richmond is 4.60 mAOD at 17:30 on 30/04/25 and 4.70 mAOD at 05:45 on 01/05/25.

   Flooding of low-lying roads and footpaths is expected, which may exist for one to two hours either side of high tide. Flooding of properties is not expected.

   We believe there is a possibility of flooding for Putney Embankment (SW15), Chiswick Mall and Strand on the Green (W4), Thames Bank at Mortlake (SW14), Ranelagh Drive (TW1), Friars Lane and Water Lane (TW9), Riverside and The Embankment at Twickenham, and the Towpath below Teddington Lock.

   Astronomical tide levels are falling. The river flow at Teddington Weir is low for this time of year at 30 cubic metres per second and is steady. We anticipate the flows to remain low for the next few days.

   We are closely monitoring the situation.

2. Flood alert

   Areas affected: Coast at North Morecambe Bay

   ACTIVE

   Started at: 08:36 BST on Wed 30 April

   Flooding is possible - be prepared

   Flooding of roads and low lying land is possible from 12:00 PM to 04:00 PM today Wednesday 30/04/2025, with the high tide peaking at 02:00 PM. Property flooding is not expected.
   Areas most at risk lie within the Sandside area of North Morecambe Bay.
   Do not drive through flood water or put yourself or others at risk
   After today’s high tide the risk of flooding from the period of spring tides will reduce as tide levels start falling.
   We will remove this message by 04:30 PM today Wednesday 30/04/2025.

3. Flood alert

   Areas affected: Groundwater flooding in the Henley and Assendon area

   ACTIVE

   Started at: 10:01 BST on Tue 29 April

   Flooding is possible - be prepared

   Groundwater levels remain high at our Stonor borehole near Henley and Assendon. Groundwater is higher than normal for this time of year and remains at a level at which communities may be affected by groundwater flooding.

   This week is forecast to be changeable. We expect groundwater levels to remain high for the next few weeks and levels are sensitive to sustained periods of rainfall. Low lying land, roads and properties will therefore continue to be at risk of flooding.

   We are continuing to monitor groundwater levels and will update this message next week, by 6 May 2025, or as the situation changes.

   Areas affected: Groundwater flooding in Kimpton and Lilley Bottom

   ACTIVE

   Flooding is possible - be prepared

   Groundwater levels have responded to high effective rainfall during the autumn and early winter, and have risen to high levels at our observation borehole at Lilley Bottom. Levels are unusually high for this time of year and have now reached a level where communities in the Kimpton and Lilley Bottom area are at risk of being affected by flooding from groundwater.

   We expect levels to remain high over the coming months in response to the high autumn and early winter rainfall. Low lying land and roads will therefore be at risk of flooding. Due to the nature of groundwater behaviour, this situation could continue for several weeks or longer.

   We are continuing to monitor groundwater levels and will update this message on Wednesday 30th April 2025 or as the situation changes.

   Areas affected: Groundwater flooding in Flamstead

   ACTIVE

   Flooding is possible - be prepared

   Groundwater levels have responded to high effective rainfall during the autumn and early winter, and have risen to very high levels at our observation borehole at River Hill, close to Flamstead. Groundwater levels are unusually high for this time of year and have now reached a level where communities are at risk of being affected by flooding from groundwater.

   We expect levels to remain high over the coming months in response to the high autumn and early winter rainfall. Low lying land and roads such as those in the Trowley Bottom area near Flamstead will therefore be at risk of flooding. Due to the nature of groundwater behaviour, this situation could continue for several weeks or longer.

   We are continuing to monitor groundwater levels and will update this message on Wednesday 30th April 2025, or as the situation changes.

6. Flood alert

   Areas affected: River Mimram in Hertfordshire

   ACTIVE

   Started at: 10:44 BST on Wed 23 April

   Flooding is possible - be prepared

   Flooding is affecting low lying land, roads and gardens close to the River Mimram. This is due to persistent rainfall in December and January which has led to high groundwater levels.

   We are monitoring the flooding that is currently affecting the Fulling Mill Lane, Singlers Marsh, and Codicote Road areas in Welwyn.

   There is an elevated risk of flooding caused by water emerging from a third party blocked culvert. Flooding to homes and businesses is unlikely at this time, but there may be a risk to very low-lying properties or those with basements. River levels in other areas remain below levels of concern.

   Avoid using low lying footpaths and any bridges near local watercourses and do not attempt to walk or drive through flood water. We are continuing to monitor the situation.
